Dale Farm Outing, 18th June

Dale Farm is a 2 acre oasis of surprising peace and beauty bordered by a busy road and a Dereham housing estate.

The magic starts as soon a you go through the gate. The approach to the house is flanked by areas of inspired planting, showcasing many speciality plants looking resplendent among feathery grasses and colourful cottage garden faithfuls allowed to seed themselves as they please in the gravel.

However, the real ‘wow factor’ is as yet hidden from view, to the side of the house. A well-tended lawn and a magnificent spring-fed pond take centre stage, surrounded by shady walks meandering though yet more fabulously panted beds and specimen trees.

There is no doubt that everyone was amazed at what had been achieved in the 18 years since Graham and Sally Watts began creating their vision for the site. We enjoyed tea and cake in the shady veranda and many of us treated ourselves to more than one of the wide variety of Sally’s plants that were on sale too.
