Copy’s Green Farm Visit

Our traditional May visit weather treated us yet again to lowering grey skies and bone-chilling wind but we were dressed accordingly and ready to learn.

Copys Farm Dairy is an impressive example of ‘agri-science’ at work. Sound up-to-date scientific methods have been employed over the last 5 years to promote the health of both the land and the animals on it.

Mr and Mrs Temple go to great lengths to create and preserve the very best soil structure possible; the animals have bespoke diets produced in the farm’s own mill and the diet sheets are adjusted by a consultant nutritionist on a monthly basis; all waste products go either into the Digester to produce gas which feeds an engine and ultimately electricity, or are piped or srpead to fertilise the land.

The Temples are constantly investing to take the business forward. The Swiss Brown cows, apart from being beautiful, are super-clean, contented and sociable stars of the show!

The famous end product is, of course, the cheeses, all 7 of which were excellent and a welcome part of the evening with a glass of wine in the warmth of the meeting room. The enthusiasm of Mr and Mrs Temple in welcoming us to this evening tour was most impressive, given the length and workload of their working day.
